Pamela & Rick Poquette, Mosquito Squad Of North Central Minnesota
August 30, 2019
In 2007, Rick could be found in Mosquito Squad customers’ yards, where he worked as a technician for three years while going to college for his civil engineering degree. Fast forward 12 years, Rick and his wife, Pamela, are owners of their very own Mosquito Squad location—with nine trucks and 21 employees!
Those staff members are key to success, says Pamela. One of the qualities that makes a successful franchise owner, says Pamela, is “having the right staff in place and allowing them to take control where we know we don’t excel. We have 21 employees that help our business thrive! We couldn’t do it without them.”
A lot of their technicians are high school and college students, just like Rick was over a decade ago. They are able to build a great rapport and have a connection because Rick and Pamela are young business owners. And they can still throw a great party—they grill out for their employees on hot summer days.
Ever since he was a kid, Rick knew he always wanted to own his own business. Right out of college was a little too soon, so the corporate office hired him as a franchise consultant to train new franchisees. He waited until the time was right and another owner was looking to sell before taking the plunge into ownership in 2015.
“Owning your own business is fun, frustrating, educating, chaotic and so enjoyable at the end of the day! We’ve enjoyed every moment of it, even the frustrating moments,” says Pamela.
